Five reasons to have your newborn session at home

Bringing your baby home is one of life’s most beautiful moments—and capturing those early days should feel just as special. That’s why I now only offer a newborn session at home. After years of shooting in a studio, I’ve completely fallen in love with photographing families in their own space—where everyone feels comfortable, relaxed, and surrounded by the little details that make your family unique.

I fully intended to build another studio in the future… but honestly? My heart had other plans.

Since switching to newborn sessions at home, I’ve completely fallen in love with this way of working. The images I now create are full of love, connection, and real-life magic. They feel more meaningful—not just to me, but to the families I photograph too.

Here’s why choosing an in-home newborn session might be the best decision you make for capturing this special time…

Five reasons to have your newborn session at home:

1. No Stress, No Rushing—Just You and Baby at Home

Getting out of the house with a newborn can feel like climbing a mountain—especially in those first hazy weeks postpartum.

With an in-home newborn session, there’s no need to pack a bag, time feeds, or worry about getting everyone dressed and out the door.

I come to you. You stay cozy. Feed your baby when you need to. Have a hot cup of tea (that in itself feels like a treat in those early days, right?!).

I’ll gently guide the session, often with a muslin over my shoulder and a smile on my face, making sure everything feels relaxed and unrushed.

2. More Personal, More Meaningful

Your home is where your story begins with your new baby.

Whether it’s the nursery you spent months decorating or the family bed where you’ve shared sleepy snuggles—having your newborn session at home means your photos are filled with your moments, textures, and memories.

I’ll capture you in your real spaces, surrounded by love, creating timeless images that will feel even more special years from now.

3. The Whole Family Can Join In (Yes, Even Pets!)

One of my favorite things about in-home newborn sessions is how easily siblings (and pets!) can be part of the experience.

Older brothers and sisters can pop in for photos, then head off to play with toys, grab a snack, or snuggle up on the sofa while we focus on baby.

If your dog or cat is part of the family story—bring them in! Some of my favorite images have involved sleepy babies and curious pets in the same frame.

4. A Calm, Comfortable Environment

Let’s face it—home is where you’re most at ease. And when mum is relaxed, baby usually is too.

Your familiar surroundings help create a calm energy for the session.

If baby needs feeding, rocking, or changing—we just pause and go with the flow. And for older children, being in their own space makes all the difference for capturing natural, happy moments.

5. Perfect for Older Newborns Too—No Age Limit!

Unlike traditional posed studio sessions that often need to happen within the first two weeks, in-home newborn photography works beautifully for older babies too.

Whether your baby is two weeks, four weeks, or even two months old—there’s no strict timeframe.

If baby’s awake, we capture those gorgeous wide-eyed moments. If they sleep, I’ll still create some simple, gently posed images with blankets and wraps I bring with me.

There’s no pressure for your baby to sleep the whole time, and you don’t need to prep anything—I bring everything we need.
