Hi I’m Sophie - Mum, wife and the face behind Sophie Bowdler Photography.

As a mum myself, I know how quickly these seasons of family life pass. Over the last 14 years I’ve had the privilege of photographing families across Dorset, preserving the moments that disappear all too quickly.

My sessions are relaxed, child-led and all about capturing the love, connection and beautifully ordinary moments that make your family unique.

A relaxed experience from start to finish

No stiff posing. No pressure for perfect smiles. Whether we're in your home with your newborn or exploring one of Dorset's beautiful beaches, my sessions are relaxed, child-led and designed around your family. I'll gently guide you when needed, but the most meaningful photographs happen in the in-between moments – the cuddles, giggles, hand squeezes and little glances that tell your story. You don't need a perfectly tidy house or children who sit still. Just come as you are, and I'll take care of the rest.

Frequently Asked Q's

I recommend booking during your second trimester so I can reserve space around your due date. Newborn sessions are usually photographed within the first two weeks, but beautiful images can be captured at any age.

Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your own home, while family and maternity sessions are held outdoors at some of Dorset’s most beautiful locations, including beaches, woodlands and country parks.

Not at all! My sessions are completely child-led. There’s no expectation for little ones to sit and smile at the camera. The best photographs often come from playing, cuddling and simply spending time together.

Once you’ve booked, I’ll send you a styling guide full of tips and inspiration to help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully and feel like you.

I’m based in Poole and regularly photograph families across Dorset, including Bournemouth, Sandbanks, Studland, Wimborne, Wareham, Christchurch, Swanage and the New Forest.

Mine isn’t either. And it definitely wasn’t when I had little ones. The goal for in-home sessions isn’t about the state of your house. It’s so much deeper than that. And really, all I need is one room with some good light and I can create magic.
