Baby Evelyn was just 10 days old when I met her and her lovely family for this golden hour newborn session at Sandbanks—and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
So often, we think newborn sessions have to be indoors, in the first week or two, in soft neutral nurseries. And while I love a cozy in-home session, this evening reminded me how special it can be to take it outdoors—especially if you’re an outdoorsy family, or have a four-legged friend you want to include.
Evelyn’s parents wanted something relaxed, natural, and meaningful to them. With warm evening light, a gentle sea breeze, and their dog Cheddar by their side, we created something beautiful together.
Wrapped in a knitted blanket, little Evelyn was content and peaceful the whole time—safe in her mum and dad’s arms. Mum wore a soft polka dot dress that caught the light just right, and Cheddar stayed close, keeping an eye on his new little sister. You could feel the bond between them all—already so strong.
We didn’t rush. We let the light guide us, paused for snuggles, and simply captured this new chapter unfolding.
If you’re someone who loves the outdoors, who feels most yourself in nature, or wants to bring your dog along to be part of the memory—an outdoor newborn session might be the perfect fit.
You don’t need a perfectly styled nursery or a quiet house. All you really need is love, light, and each other.
