I have wanted to write this blog post for a while, as I often have mums to-be asking a lot of the same questions when enquiring or booking their newborn photography session. So hopefully this will help answer some of your queries…
Being a mum myself I completely understand how amazing but also overwhelming those first few weeks are with a newborn. Making the decision to book in a photo session, with all that craziness going on is pretty daunting, if I can help ease some of your worries with this post, then great!
I would love you to photograph my newborn, when should I book my session?- The best time to get in touch is just after your 20 week scan, most sessions are booked in weeks or months in advance. (I only book a limited number of due dates per month so that I can ensure I can fit everybody in and work around midwife/health visitor appointments once baby is here.) I require a £75 booking fee to secure your session. There is then a range of packages to choose from including digital images, prints, framed prints, albums etc… starting at £199.
Once your baby arrives and you have settled back in at home, just give me a call or email me and we can then confirm the best date and time for your session. Newborn sessions are best within 14 days of baby being born, with days 5-10 being the most ideal. The reason for this is that at this stage most babies are still sleepy and more settled which allows me to achive those cute curled up newborn poses! As the weeks pass, your baby will become more alert and have longer awake periods during the day time.
Where will the session take place?- Your session will take place in my home studio, I want you and your baby to feel relaxed and comfortable so you are able to feed on demand and put your feet up with refreshments and a magazine. I have a comfortable chair available for new mums when feeding, as well as lots of water, tea, coffee & biscuits!
How long will the session take?- Your newborn session can take up to 4 hours (however most take around two) to allow time for feeding, cuddles and bum changes, I am completely baby led and never rush a session.
Do I need to feed my baby before we arrive?- Ideally we want baby to be fed as soon as you arrive, so if possible try to feed around 1-2 hours before you come. We need baby to be as sleepy as possible to get the best photographs and poses, this can sometimes be straight away or take an hour or so.
Can you tell me when I receive my images?- Usually around 2-3 weeks after the session, you will receive a password-protected online gallery with 30 edited images ready to view, then you are able choose the number of images provided in your chosen package and decide on any extra products you would like to purchase from my a la carte price list.
Do you take parent or sibling photographs also?- Yes, I can also include some parent or sibling photographs in your session, however there is an additional fee of £50 to cover the extra editing time.
What do I need to bring with me?- Pack for your session as you would for any other outing with a newborn. So a changing bag with spare nappies & wipes, a dummy if you use one and an extra bottle of milk if you are bottle feeding. Wear loose layered clothing as the studio will be kept pretty warm to ensure baby is comfortable at all times.
I hope that this helps with any queries you might have about your Newborn Photography Session, but please don’t hesitate to Contact me if you have any further questions or if you would like to check my availability for your due date…
